Detailed DescriptionDetailed DescriptionTour HighlightsWith one of our licensed expert Florence tour guides, enjoy an in-depth discussion on Florence's most popular tourist attraction, the David by Michelangelo. With skip-the-line tickets included, during this tour your guide will also discuss other important works by the genius of the Renaissance that are housed within the Accademia. DescriptionThe Michelangelo and David Florence Tour is designed for people with limited time in the city. At the Accademia, your tour will start with the original statue of David where you will learn all the history behind Michelangelo's monumental work, from his selection of the marble to the finished David with its particular qualities, through which it was heralded as a symbol of the city of Florence. The Accademia museum also hosts another important work by this genius of the Renaissance, the notorius "Slaves" that were originally designed for the tomb of Pope Julius II. While discussing these captivating figures desperately trying to wriggle free of the stone that holds them, you will learn about the volatile relationship between Michelangelo and Pope Julius II, and why these statues were never finished. Pope Julius II was the man who chose Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, and of all his famous patrons he was the man whose personality and charisma drove Michelangelo to realize his greatest achievements. During this fascinating tour your guide will also shed light on Michelangelo and the complex personality that made him an isolated figure among the artists of the great Renaissance movement. The tour ends inside the museum. Important Note:
